Stay away!!!!- Refinanced my car with them. Worst service I could have. They have a "glitch" on their system so I can't make payments online. I had numerous calls with them, but they say they can't fix it on the system. I have to go personally everyday to deposit money (through) cash on their savings account to perform payments, and pretty much waste half a day every month. Currently looking at options of just repaying the whole loan just to get rid of them. Wish I just stayed at Toyota Credit rather than listening to rateGenius.

      Response from the owner

Thomas --- we are sorry to hear about your recent experience with us. We are aware of only one day when unfortunately the system was down that may have caused this. Beyond that, we would need more specifics in order to be able to troubleshoot this more. We invite you to send an email directly to us at [email protected] and place it to the attention of our Chief Sales Officer. We will work to make sure your experience with us is dramatically improved moving forward. Thank you for your comments.

Awful service. Not only do I have to come in person to pay the mortgage every month like its the 1900 because of a glitch in their system but the cashier refused to tell me if the amount I paid went towards the late fee or not, as I keep being charged that. Just AWFUL.

From personal, to business accounts and now even my mortgage I can't express how helpful this staff is! Their knowledge and care for members really helps us make the best financial decisions possible. Would definitely recommend the Newark branch to anyone looking for a personalized banking experience!

They could be away better. They don’t call the clients that are in line waiting, instead they stay in their phones or gossiping with their co-workers. It’s like you have to begin them for you to be assisted. Will not get any services from them again.

Good day I’ve been a faithful client at GS and went to open a small business account in the Newark NJ office this morning and was sitting for over 20 minutes to speak with a banker. Then minutes later I went to complain that not one of the available banker even acknowledged my presence not even by even a simple good morning. After I went to complain the branch manager he tried to assign me to a banker and she was very rude! So I left!! I’m not certain why they weren’t eager to assist me. And I don’t want to assume it was a race thing issue being no one there was of my nationality. But what I do know is I will not return

      Response from the owner

Dear Chef Burke: We are very sorry to hear about your experience at our Newark location today. First and foremost we want to apologize if you in any way felt as if you were being ignored and worse, deliberately ignored. The branch manager was actually not in the building at that time as she was at another location and the person who greeted you was one of our tellers/service representatives. We are disappointed that it seemed as though the person you were directed too however, was rude. We pride ourselves on our customer service and it is clear that you were extremely disappointed in the service provided. We also pride ourselves on our diversity and our entire staff at all of our numerous locations is extremely diverse and representative of a wide variety of different ethnicities and cultures. I am confident in saying the service you received, albeit seemingly poor, was in no way racially driven. Having discussed your situation with the branch manager, there is some disputing of the wait times but there was no dispute that our reaction to your presence was not as quick as it could have or should have been. Our Newark branch is often busy with remote auto loan processing and it seems as if they simply did not recognize that a member had walked in. If there is anything we can do to turn around this experience for you, please let us know as we would welcome the opportunity to win back your trust. You may email me directly at [email protected] (Michael Powers, Vice President & Chief Sales Officer) if you would like to add to your comments or discuss this matter further. Thank you for your membership at Garden Savings Federal Credit Union and again, we apologize for the disappointing service.

I had an exceptional experience with loan officer Danielle Genuario. She was so professional and answers all my emails right away. I want to say thank you to Garden Savings for giving me a home equity loan when no commercial bank would. Thank you again. Cindy

      Response from the owner

Cindy, we’re thrilled to hear of your excellent experience! Thank you for sharing

Just read through the reviews, this bank is very prejudiced when it comes to African Americans, they will not give you a loan more than 2-3k and if so your apr WILL BE extremely high, It doesn't matter your salary or credit score and you certainly wont see a Black person working here regardless of which branch you enter, unless of course theyre mixed, and this would only be to save face. HORRIBLY PREJUDICED STAY AWAY!!

I am upset with this bank I had to close it. I saw their personal loans was at a good APR as per their website and when I went with a 750+ credit score only had a student loan and a car loan (already financed by them that’s how I found out about them. They approved my loan from a dealership). And they was charging me 14.50% APR. I asked why because my credit score is excellent and I only had to pay off two loans which I made pretty good money too. Her response was that I didn’t have a lot to pay off so that wasn’t enough for them to trust that I can pay off the personal loan. I had no choice to take it but they basically took advantage because they know I can pay off my loan with a high APR. I did a balance transfer from Discover with 0% APR and closed them. No one is going to take advantage from me anymore. Even with a great credit score some banks still take advantage. ( my car loan was already paid off as well)

      Response from the owner

Good morning Ms. Luna. I am writing to you from Garden Savings Federal Credit Union. We are extremely sorry that your experience with us has left a bad taste. We certainly do not want to be perceived as an institution that takes advantage of individuals. On the contrary, we pride ourselves on being able to help many people obtain approvals they could not get elsewhere and/or better rates than they can find anywhere else. I suspect what happened in your case was that the trade lines you had were not established for as long as necessary to be deemed trade lines by our definition and hence you default to the "no credit" score. However, should you choose to ever try us out again in the future, please note that if you are questioning the rate you can always run it up to a higher level here for further review either through myself (Michael Powers, Chief Sales Officer) or Rose Mathisen (AVP of Lending). We can give your loan personal attention and verify any disputes you have on how your credit score was calculated. I apologize that you feel that this was not the case in the instance of this loan; we pride ourselves on helping people achieve their personal financial success and are disappointed this is not what happened here. Should you have any questions please feel free to email me at any time and we hope that we have the chance to earn back your business in the future. Sincerely, ~ Michael Powers

Had a lemon car financed through the credit union and gave it up as a voluntary repossession. They were supposed to notify me when car had been auctioned off so I could pay the remainder balance and no one ever contacted me phone mail or email. I now have an outstanding balance on my credit! (SMDH) The worst customer service and Americas MOST INCONVENIENT BANK!

WORST customer service EVER. Called and was transferred to Collections after being placed on hold for 20 mins, someone answered and hung up. I called again and the lady said I need to speak to someone in Collections and I explained what happened and she said "well there isnt anything I can do". She transferred me back to Collections where I was then sent to leave a voicemail. They are quick to want their money but cant answer a customers question.

      Response from the owner

This is certainly not the customer service we strive for Jazmin. Do you happen to know who you spoke with by chance? The direct number to our Collections team is 973-576-2018.
