I bought a new car in July of 2019 from a dealership in Grapevine and managed to let them convince me to accept a loan through EECU for a fractionally lower interest rate. Mind you, I had to become a "Friend of Tarleton State University" and sign up for something else I don't even remember to actually qualify to be a member of EECU because I don't live in Tarrant County, and that should have struck me as shady right off the bat, but it was a lower interest rate, which means less money, and what could that hurt, right? Wrong. If I had bothered to Google them first, I wouldn't have agreed to it, because the reviews speak the truth. EECU is horrible, and I have spent more time on the phone or in online chat with them in just a few weeks than with my previous lender in the entire past five years. You can't make your payments online from an outside account, you have to open a checking account to do that, and then you have to call them and have them set it up for automatic payments. They actually mailed me loan payment coupons that I could mail in with a check and stamped envelope in order to make my payment. It's 2019. My elderly grandparents don't even mail in checks to pay bills anymore. So now I'm having to write myself checks from my primary non-EECU checking account to deposit into the EECU checking account that I had to open in order to make automatic payments via an app just to make my monthly car payments. I keep expecting them to ask me to juggle flaming torches while jogging backwards down the middle of I-35 next. And then, and this is the icing on the cake, be prepared that they are going to want to see every bit of your insurance information. I have had car loans my entire adult life from major lenders and never have I needed to provide more than a proof of insurance card to any of them, but these guys seem to think that they are so special that they need your entire declarations page, and it better be signed by your agent (which even baffled my agent. "Never been a problem before," he said), or they will threaten to take out insurance for you and add that to your monthly payment to the tune of an extra $120 a month. Seriously, unless they are the only lender offering to extend you credit, go somewhere else. There are many credit unions and other lenders you can work with who are happy to have your business and can offer all the conveniences of a modern 21st century organization. EECU is not worth the hassle, they are not easy to work with, their website is an unparalleled disaster, and they clearly do not value anyone's business enough to even attempt to be more user friendly. I will be refinancing this loan ASAP just to be rid of them. EDIT: If you want to know why EECU are so ridiculous about their insurance requirements, it's because they own North Texas Insurance Services (NTIS), and you will receive solicitations from them. This has got to be the shadiest credit union I have ever dealt with.

I'm not sure why other people have had such a bad experience. I have always found them helpful and have always been able to reach someone. I use EECU for several things. Much better than working with large banks.

TERRIBLE! I have an auto loan with them and can NEVER reach customer service about anything, website is always down. I'll be refinancing through my tried and true FORT WORTH COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK!

Bought a new truck in Dec. and made a payment in Jan. Then went to auto draft in Jan. They charged me 2 late payments of $49 ea. and would not give it back! This is how they make money! They also sent me to the Call Center and they transfer you around like a ping-pong ball and just try and get you off the phone! Won't ever do business with them again!!

Pretty much what everyone else said. I opened an account and a car loan through them recently and it has been a nightmare from the start. A month later they are asking for proof of insurance and continue to email me after I have sent information to them. They seem very disorganized and inconsistent. Not having to deal with them is incentive enough to pay off the car faster. Would not recommend. Avoid at all cost.

      Response from the owner

Hi Alex, I am sorry to hear about this experience. I will have someone give you a call to see if we can get this straightened out. Thank you for making us aware of the situation.

I just bought a car and got EECU as my lender. They asked me to provide proof of insurance a month later, which I've never been asked to do by a lien holder before. I sent a copy of the card, they wouldn't take it, and demanded the full policy document. Also, it's impossible to make a payment on my auto loan. The instructions to pay online provided via chat are not applicable to my loan - they describe steps to take that DO NOT EXIST on the web page when I view my loan. I tried setting up bill pay through an external bank, which says their payment zip code is invalid. How on earth is it so difficult to PAY and deal with a company??? I'm already trying to refi and I just got this account a month ago. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS BANK.

Service and communication with the mortgage department ( manger and loan officer) was terrible. Emails were left in answered, phone calls scheduled and never received the calls. Stopped our loan process with EECU. Disappointed to say the least.

No point in being a member here. They will NOT help you with a personal or auto loan. Not only will they not help you, they won't even let you try to explain your situation. They ask you all kinds of questions but in the end if you have a mark on your credit score from almost 8 years ago, they say no way. Rude also. We went to state farm bank, called in the morning with the car we wanted to buy, by the afternoon we had a check in hand and were at the dealership buying a truck. Im not sure why we ever switched from chase bank to eecu, they have no desire to help people. Even with a 750 credit score and 2 verifiable steady incomes they wouldnt help us. Worthless. If you want a car loan, go to state farm. They care more about people. We have now bought 2 cars using state farm.

This is the most frustrating banking system ever! they have multiple links to make a payment and they deny me access everytime. i have had to call to make a phone payment every month for 1 year. A live person to speak with is impossible. i do not recommend this company at all . 0 stars would be correct

      Response from the owner

Echoing pretty much what everyone is saying here: take your auto loan business elsewhere. This company is a nightmare to deal with. I'd pay a higher rate elsewhere to not have to deal with them, and I pay my statements on time. I couldn't imagine how this company would treat someone who doesn't.

      Response from the owner

Hi Dan, I’m sorry to hear about your frustration. Can you send more details about the interaction to [email protected]? And your contact information. Thank you!
