Discover Bank Reviews

William McMullin1I couldn't log onto my Discover account online in July 2017. Discover ignored me e-mails and wouldn't do anything. I filed a complaint with the Delaware Bank Commissioner, the Better Business Bureau, and CFPB. Discover then let me back into my account. I called Discover to follow-up on it. A few weeks later they wouldn't let me into my account again. I e-mailed Discover's CEO and executive customer service on 7/31/17 to overnight my bill to me since they won't let me pay it online. Instead of taking responsibility and fixing the situation, Discover ignored me. I sent a message to Discover through Twitter. First, the Discover employee on Twitter lied to me stating they don't lock customers out of their accounts. He kept saying I needed to call Discover even though I told him I did call them weeks ago about it. He was very rude and not helpful. He also said Discover only uses "appropriate" language in their communications. That's a lie...Discover does not respond. lol

Angel Alvarado1Horrible service! After reading my Consumer's Report list of worthy banks, I applied online and confirmed by phone to transfer monies from CD's into Interest Savings Account. Spoke to Amanda and Emerald (Phoenix) on 7/14/17. Discover forms promised by 7/19 never arrived! Today, 8/1/17, phoned again and spoke to Emily (Salt lake) kept on phone for over 20 minutes with no explanation of glitch ....finally CANCELLED....you'd think we were trying to borrow funds!

Madi Hawpetoss1Can't even make an online purchase without them blocking it. I was told that the merchant must not accept Discover, it was for Amazon, which definitely does accept Discover. Then later they returned a credit card payment which in turn made me miss my payment due date, so now my credit score has been lowered all thanks to them. I will be closing my account as well as my savings account.

Cor5I've been a longtime customer and never had any of the issues described by other reviewers. I did have one problem with an typo on a transfer (and it was my fault) which resulted in an overdraft and it could have been disastrous to my credit, but they were helpful in resolving it. I've done a couple balance transfers and all were quickly and smoothly accomplished. I'd recommend this bank.

Jack Zhang1I sent five on-line bill payments to one BOA credit card account. All didn't go into it. Four of them returned in time as credit back to my checking. The first one of $50 on 02/17 got lost. Since then I called near ten times, talked to more than ten staffs/super/manager, got different answers but not solve my problem. Several staffs seem short of basic knowledge to review my statement. I got really tired to repeat the story on every calling.Today one manager Jessica insisted on me to check with BOA side. I know she is wrong, but I still called BOA, Kathy/Delaware office told me BOA couldn't check/trace it as it paid by Discover on-line bill pay. Discover bank has all means to solve the problem for you. This is my terrible experience with their customer service. Where can I get help with? Any contact numbers? Thanks!!

Ron Abernathy3I’ve had a Discover Card for several years. Rarely used it. Recently opened a checking account only to discover that the ATM card is absolutely worthless in Asia. Also, the Discover Card is of very limited use in Asia. A plus is their excellent customer service. I hope they “Discover” a lot of the peoples of the world do travel.

Janice Jones1I've had this checking account for about 3 years- I use it every now and then because there is no service center locally. It takes about 7 days for your money to become available, even with transferring funds electronically. I don't like that delay. I'm going to close my account. I've had it with Discover Bank.

James Griffey5I've worked in a bank myself, so I understand how deposit agreements and schedules of service charges and fees work. Banking is a personal thing, so no one bank fits everyone. You don't have the in person convenience of most banks with Discover. If that's your thing, don't bank with Discover. However, if you like NO service charges besides wires or federal violations, and free checks, and great interest rates, and dont like walking into banks, then give this bank a try! Their mobile app links with the discover credit card in a sleek interface. ATM is the only tricky part about this bank. You have to use the app to locate service charge free ATMs, bit they're around. (Its a partnership with third party ATM vendors!) ATMs might not give you the option of choosing your bill denominations, the one I've used so far gave me 20 dollar bills only. But if you're cashless already, why choose a service charge bank like BoA, PNC or Wells Fargo? Customer service is all through a call center, and from my experience so far, they stock their center with knowledgeable and friendly people. I give Discover bank a five star rating because of its clever and streamlined approach to banking, not because it beats mainstream banks at their own game.

Stephanie Addarich1Worst bank to deal with ever. Customer service is completely useless and won't take ownership of the wrong informtion provided. Long story is they will take your deposit. Hold it for as long as they want. Give you the wrong information and when you have items that need to be paid they will return them and charge you a fee even though they have over $3k sitting in a deposit hold that has already cleared the other bank. Then they want to tell me that that's not the case when I clearly can see the money is gone. So it's in limbo? Worst experience ever. This is coming from a former BOA employee who understand the banking industry RUN FROM THIS BANK!! Do not use them at all!!!

Joe Zeppa1I have an online discover bank account. When I tried to take money out, they flagged it as "suspicious activity". They blocked my account - I couldn't even log on. I had to spend an hour on the phone with them getting transferred around. Now the money I was withdrawing is stuck in limbo - not in my account and not in the account I was transferring to. I have to wait for what they are telling me a week to get it back into my discover bank account, then re-initiate the withdrawal. Then another week for that to happen. Bottom line is it might take you a few weeks to get your money when you need it. Back to the brick and mortar banks for me.
