This company should be sued! From "pay to pay" fees to mismanagement of loan accounts during forbearance periods. If anyone is experiencing issues with the latter, feel free to share your experience with me, [email protected]. Here is my saga... I was granted forbearance due to COVID-19 as of 3/31/2020. In general, my mortgage statements since then do not make any sense and I am trying to obtain explanations/clarification as I do not feel bookkeeping of the account is accurate. Below are a list of my grievances. I have tried contacting Carrington Mortgage Services several times over the last 5 business days and, each time, am automatically disconnected after a recorded message stating, "We are unable to assist at this time due to large call volumes". 1) My May 2020 statement (first statement of forbearance) HAS A LATE FEE OF $45.53 ON IT. Again, I am in forbearance. 2) The June and July 2020 statements have a DELINQUENCY NOTICE ATTACHED STATING, "YOU ARE LATE ON YOUR MORTGAGE PAYMENTS. FAILURE TO BRING YOUR LOAN CURRENT MAY RESULT IN FEES AND FORECLOSURE - THE LOSS OF YOUR HOME". Again, I am in forbearance. 3) I have been submitting escrow only payments during forbearance (as I was previously told was acceptable), however, there have been "unapplied funds" on both the June and July 2020 mortgage statements. The most recent statement (July) indicates that previously unapplied funds are being applied to principle, interest, and escrow. 4) For some odd reason, both my June and July 2020 statements show the same amount due (despite partial payment for escrow only being made). 5) On 6/1/2020, I submitted a "forbearance update" online at the request of Carrington. I received an on screen message which stated that the forbearance was being extended by 90 days. I have yet to receive anything formal stating such and in my online account it still shows as forbearance ending on 6/30/2020. 6) In early April 2020, a Carrington rep told me that I would be informed of what options will be available to me at the end of my forbearance period in June 2020.I have still not been informed of what my options are at the end of the forbearance period. Carrington has previously told me that I may be required to pay all missed payments at once at the end of the forbearance. Several of my colleagues and friends have told me that their banks/loan servicers have already informed them of what their options will be at the end of the forbearance (and it's not repaying all missed payments in full). In summary, I do not think Carrington is being honest or accurately maintaining my loan. Quite honestly, I think there is some nefarious activity going on. 9/21/20 Update/Response to Business Response: Since writing this review 3 months ago, there are a whole new set of issues with Carrington. One such issue includes ending forbearance and the mis-application of the payments (double funding escrow and leaving a shortage on P&i). Carrington admitted the mistake and said it would be corrected within 30 days...30 DAYS to FIX THEIR SCREW UP?!?! In the meantime I continued to be harassed with delinquent letters and phones calls when the loan was, in fact, current. It was not until I involved the VP of Loss Mitigation that the payment was re-allocated properly. And you say that, "...Customer Service Department has a great reputation and responds quickly to correct any errors when notified"??? I'm refinancing this property (at a higher interest rate) just to get away from the nightmare of Carrington servicing the loan.

We initially spoke to Chris Hood several years ago. (5 or 6) At that time we were ready to go with a home purchase. Within 10 days of receiving our prequalification, we had a horrible family tragedy which sidelined the home buying process until finally now in 2020. In late February of 2020 I took my chances with pulling my notes from my call to Carrington years ago. I called Mr. Hood's cell and HE ANSWERED! We were able to pick up immediately where we left off. Chris and his team including Dawn, had our underwriting completed and ready for closing within 30 days. Closed on March 24th...Thank you all so much! This process has been wonderful.

      Response from the owner

We are glad to hear that your experience with Carrington Mortgage Services and specifically with Chris was a positive one! Thank you for being a Carrington Customer, we count ourselves lucky for customers like you!

Beware! Carrington Mortgage Services is practicing predatory tactics that will destroy the mortgage industry during the Covid-19 crisis. They're "offering" a forbearance plan for a period of 3+ months to customers suffering economic losses from the pandemic. However, once the forbearance period is over, the customer must repay in full the 3+ months that were deferred. This is NOT helping the customer. Imagine having a $1200 mortgage deferred due to losing your job or not being able to run your business during the pandemic, just to realize that after its over, you now have a $4200 bill due when you get back to work, amongst other costs. You will end up in foreclosure. This practice is tantamount to the predatory lending practices of 2004 that lead to the housing crash. Contact your state's Attorney General and report this abuse. It is criminal, predatory and unAmerican.

Overall the process was smooth for me. Other than the last minute document request that almost derailed it, we ended up closing later in the evening. My township website crashed and they needed proof of taxes paid, which should have been requested to avoid this. The processor and underwriter were great.

      Response from the owner

Hello Marek, Thank you for sharing! We are happy to hear that you had a positive experience with Carrington Mortgage Services. We count ourselves lucky for customers like you!

This is not a honest place to do business with. I inherited my mothers house in june and in july Carrington started foreclosure on the house. I tried to talk to them to see if we could work together they said no get them 20.000 dollars and they would stop the foreclosure. So if you need to refinance don't use this company they will do anything to get your property.

      Response from the owner

Linda - Please contact us by sending us a DM on Facebook or calling us at (800)561-4567 so that we may research your specific situation.
