Bank of North Dakota Reviews

Josh Wicklund5I recently got married and my wife and I merged accounts. So, I went into the BND online portal and switched the account to auto withdrawal from my new account. The issue is, my account did not switch to the new one. So, the auto payment was connected to my old account. My payment there isn't much so, for me, it is a set it and forget it type of payment. 60 days later, I get a notification from my credit report that I am not paying my BND loan. I call BND and they look at my account, seeing that I added the new bank account but I didn't do "something" so BND's system only attempted to pull money out of the old account. Well, I communicated with them and Joe, the head of customer relations, called me and said he was going to clear up the issue. I am very thankful and I believe that BDN actually listens to their customers. If you are doing the right thing, paying your bills and working with then, they will take care of you. You just have to communicate with them and do the right thing. I recommend BND to you!

JJ Burrill4UPDATE: Joe, head of customer service at BND reached out to me and resolved as much of my issues as he could. I very much appreciated the gesture, but still hope they change how their website works to make it easier to use! Took out 3 student loans through this bank. Paying back has been a nightmare unfortunately. Tried to setup automatic payments and got confirmation that they were done and now getting dinged for missed payments. The website is confusing to navigate and hard to use. On top of that, when my 6 month grace period for student loans ran out, my account had been "deleted" as they moved to a new computer system so I still owed money but could not pay. My credit took a huge hit due to "misses payments". I think with some website updates, most of my problems could have been avoided.

Venita Quamme1This review concerns their DEAL student loans. Initially, everything was okay until one day it wasn't. Unfortunately I had medical issues and couldn't work. The payments were due. I had a physician complete two of three "forgiveness" forms. They were sent to the Bank. The final form was signed by a Physician Assistant rather than a physician. It wasn't accepted. They wanted a large payment that I couldn't afford, and would not accept a smaller payment. I am now in default. I've never avoided them or try to hide my whereabouts. Now I must deal with a collection agency. Please go elsewhere for a student loan. Thank you.

Jenna Williamson5Today I called and spoke with Jen in the Student Loan Department - she was extremely helpful and provided me a number of options regarding consolidation. We talked about the benefits/cons of moving to another bank and discussed the importance of asking about fees. She even volunteered to help me with financial and pay off strategies at a later date. The customer service has always been extremely helpful here. It is the main reason I haven’t refinanced elsewhere.

Patrick Petree1Never had a late payment until BND started payments on one of my loans 4 months early without telling me. I learned through EQUIFAX that I was 45 days overdue. What a scam. Also, last year their website was down for a month where they were transferring accounts to their new website and when the new website went up I had to contact them that I had no loan info on their new page. Took them over two weeks to fix it.

Luke Hummel5Jen was very helpful on the phone. She talked me through everything and made my situation of paying back my loans incredibly clear. She deserves 5 stars because she went above and beyond and walked me through the process step by step.

Sarah Bucher1If you are considering dealing in student loans with this bank, please take all of this into consideration. There are so many better options out there. I am slowly pulling myself out of this credit hole My bank of North Dakota student loans put me in and gave me no mercy or forgiveness with. So BND needs to get with the times and update their online services. First and foremost. Not sure how they are able to stay in business. Oh yeah, it is due to the crazy interest rates they forced students into 10 years ago. Anyways. Overall they have been decent to deal with. They will not Work with you in any way shape or form to try to make your payments every month. For a good 5 years I was working at a job in the career my major was in that simply didn’t pay enough to allow for basic living expenses along with an incredibly large student loan payment every month. There were times I had to choose between eating and paying my loan. There were times I had to choose between being homeless or paying my student loan. I went an entire year without my mental health medication because I could afford health insurance AND my student loan payment. Bank of North Dakota does not care. Again, If you are considering dealing in student loans with this bank, please take all of this into consideration. I am slowly pulling myself out of this credit hole My bank of North Dakota student loans put me in and gave me no mercy or forgiveness with.

Dani M1Extremely passive aggressive business. Contributes to divisions within my family over my private student loans that I took out while j attended the Univrrsity of North Dakota when my financial aid ran out. Despite the fact its the middle of a pandemic and my grandfather died from covid they're contributing to my anxiety over finances although I'm showing good faith and continuing payments when I can. I'm advising every student to please think twice before ever working with this bank or you will regret it.

kirakoster1EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE. IF YOU EVER WANT TO MAKE A PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE IT WILL COST YOU $20. Even if your check “supposedly” got lost in the mail, and you’ve NEVER had a late payment in years. THESE GUYS ARE A RIP OFF. Oh my goodness. They lose checks. My S.O. has NEVER had a late payment in years. They call and harass him at work and are rude and accusatory of him not paying. Then when he takes time off work to call... they don’t even answer, because the loan officer rarely even works there and has no set hours, so all you get is sent straight to voicemail. When you leave a voicemail asking to please call back, so that this can be resolved... they do not call back. Then the receptionist or whatever she is... (definitely a miserable person) is soooo rude on the phone. Cutting off and talking over the top... for seriously no good reason other than blind pride. She came across like she was defensive and guilty of something... because no one is that rude for no reason. THESE PEOPLE ARE JOKES.

Tim Rohloff1I continuously have to go through re-setting my online banking credentials and they keep overhauling their systems so that there is no record of my account. Its a massive chore to do even basic things like retrieve annual tax documents from them. STAY AWAY.
