UW Credit Union Reviews

Tristan Klein3The staff are great. But the fact that there isn’t a drive up option or even a walk up ATM when the university Union is closed, is a serious inconvenience. I’m considering switching banks now that I’m no longer a student. There isn’t an alternative branch location on the East Side of Milwaukee either.

Emily B5Always pleased with my experiences at or on the phone with UWCU. Very professional, direct, and helpful. I started at UWCU as a student after Chase monopolized the world and stole my money, but UWCU hardly has any fees (or they are extremely avoidable), so I'm glad they are on campus for students. The more I have to interact with other banks, the more I realize UWCU is competent, honest, and feels like home.

Adam Moscinski1Extremely inconvenient, and almost never open. Why is this here? They need to open an actual UWCU location on the east side. As is, this is the only location close by and it’s tucked in the Union, which you have to pay to park at. This place is never open and it sucks

Brendan Hanson5Great customer service at this branch. UWCU gave me a low interest loan during the beginning of the pandemic when my Unemployment Insurance was being endlessly delayed, saved the day.
Response from the ownerHi Brendan, thank you for writing in and sharing this story! We're so glad we could help.

Taylor Soderling4Enjoyed transferring from a credit union in Michigan to this one. As a student, I feel the staff are very attentive to my wife's and my needs and situation. Only real complaint is that the tellers at the front seem very inconvenienced by your presence whenever you want to do something as easy as exchanged bills for coins. Overall, though, the credit union has been great and this location has been conveniently located on campus just steps from class.

MW2Got my phone and wallet stolen. They would let me cancel my debit card, but apparently they couldn't cancel my credit card because I didnt guess the right address. The thing is, I did guess the right address in the first place. All this after I got all the security questions right, the police talked to them, and I gave them my social security number. They also didnt seem to understand the difference between my debit card and my credit card and they only gave me the latest transactions for my credit card. All this at 2am. Then to make matters worse every time I would try to login from a device other than my stolen phone, I would hit the the authentication wall which required me to receive a text or call from my stolen phone. So, I did not realize that they failed to cancel my credit card until 2 days later. What a rip off. Luckily the people who stole my phone didnt buy anything. After this, I'm seriously considering switching to a different bank.
Response from the ownerHi there, we're sorry to hear your phone and wallet were stolen! To clarify, did you perhaps call Visa rather than UWCU? (We ask because you mention this occurring at 2 a.m., when our offices are closed and we're unavailable.) It sounds like that might have been the case, and the person you spoke to was a Visa representative rather than a UWCU representative. As for the authentication step, we understand that must have been challenging without your phone! When others are in this situation (usually because they're traveling abroad without cell service), we suggest giving our offices a call via Skype to help get through VerifyU. If you have any questions about the above or would like to chat about this situation further, please give us a call at 800-533-6773 or send us a secure message in Web Branch. Thanks!

Josie Osborne5I have been a member of UW credit union since I was in undergrad. At UW Milwaukee the staff are thoughtful and great at their jobs...from car loan, home equity loan to refinancing our house. Howard even notarized our domestic partner paperwork which felt like a really special moment in our lives. They have been with us through it all with great service and good people.

Connor Stone5My credit has been going up quickly since they helped me get a credit card. They are great at explaining finance to the ignorant, and their student card makes it very difficult to get in debt and ruin your credit as long as you have a basic level of financial stability. Not for profit and it shows.
