Tri Boro Federal Credit Union Reviews

Gina L1Not good for having your pay for direct deposits. Not once but twice was my direct deposit canceled when my employer tried to deposit into my account. I was even given a letter from Triborough with my account information on it. I don’t understand this. I’m canceling this account I won’t let it get to the third Tim!

Lee Z1I’ve been a loyal customer with over 60,000 in my account but keep that for an emergency situation. Been in the same job close to 20 years, house paid off, car paid off. Credit is good. Debt to income ratio is low. My car loan was with them and I always paid on time and paid it off early. Applied for 2,000 for home improvements and was denied! This is so insulting to me. This place is horrible! Terrible service and hard to do business with. I plan on taking all my money out of there and putting it back into my bank. They will not be using my money to lend to others but not me! I have never been so insulted and discriminated against in my life!

Akwasi Opoku-Dakwa1Unfortunately, for me, everything was a hassle with Triboro - maintaining an account (hassle), getting a mortgage (no sense of urgency), and sharp fees. Their hours are 9-4pm M-F and closed weekends and you have to go there to get anything done, including signing up for online banking. So if you're busy, not the most convenient. When I started looking to buy a home, I opened a savings account with them (based on a friend's recommendation) to make me eligible for a mortgage . During the home-buying process they were initially my go-to for any opportunity that came up. But between the limited hours and the fact they have only one loan officer who is often out, sick, working from home etc. -- well bidding on houses is a competitive time-bound process. Imagine driving to the bank to get a mortgage estimate on a Friday afternoon, trying to put in an offer ASAP, and they tell you the mortgage officer left already and she'll be out Monday etc. Every other bank recommended by the broker was faster than Tri-boro and as competitive or better on interest rates and other terms and could provide what I needed without ever setting foot in a branch (and I wasn't even a member of those banks!). So I wound up getting a mortgage from a different bank and my $50 remained in my savings account - I figured, what harm can come. Maybe we'll use them for something in the future. After I moved into the new house, they start charging $10/mo. because I didn't change my address, and that then brings you below minimum and they charge you $2/mo. for that, then they say the account is delinquent and another $10/mo on top. So eventually, they're charging me $22/mo. on a $50 account for all these "good" reasons. Well, by the time I could get to the bank on a Monday afternoon to close it up, I had $6 left - not worth the drive :) That was my experience shared in case useful to someone.

allen beebe1When my wife and I went to Triborough bank we experienced the worst possible customer service that you could have in a bank. When we arrived to conduct our business at our scheduled time we knocked on the door and waited more than five minutes. When no one met us at the door I had to call them and let them know we were there for our appointment. A few minutes later this lady came out ( with no mask on), didn’teven greet us, looked at us like we were the biggest pain ever and asked us what we wanted. When we said what we wanted, she just pushed the door open and we walked in with no idea where to go. Finally some other employee asked us what we wanted and we got our business handled. Maybe Poor customer service is the norm in Pittsburgh but after that encounter I would never bank with this establishment.

Samuel Sokol1If I could give less than one star for this institution I would. I had purchased a used vehicle and this was the only institution the small dealership used for financing. Despite my excellent credit score they gave me a terrible rate but I loved the vehicle so I went through with it knowing I could get a better rate. While I was in the office signing the loan papers I was searching for a refinancing option and that day I found one. My rate was lowered 4 points. That isn't the bad part. My loan was paid off at Tri Boro FCU within the week and my new institution paid over to ensure any interest was covered. Turns out Tri Boro needed to reimburse me about $178 so I spoke with them twice about it and had to send a letter to receive the funds, which they eventually sent me. A few more weeks passed and I saw $255 was taken out of my account via ACH by Tri Boro. I called them asking them why this was the case when a month earlier my loan with them was paid off. They stated the ACH department was never notified. I asked them if they had interdepartmental communication. They stated no and that it was my fault because I was supposed to call and tell them. I guess I shouldn't have assumed that the two times I spoke with someone earlier in the month about the refund would mean they would have told someone that the loan was paid off and to stop the ACH payments. So I asked if they could refund me. They said no I had to drive out there to get the money. I live 45 minutes away or more from all their branches. I explained I would just put a dispute in with my back. Eventually my bank got me my money back. Everyone I spoke with at Tri Boro passed the blame to me and were very rude. Most unprofessional institution I have ever had to deal with. DO NOT GO THROUGH THEM. GO ANYWHERE ELSE!

Dominique Gibson1This bank is probably the worse bank i EVER had! Tell you when where and how you can spend your hard earn money . Want them to notify you when you are going out of town or trying to transfer money to a different account. Don’t let you take out large amounts at the bank! They are so controlling and i don’t recommend this bank to NOBODY.

Doug Shipe1Unnecessary in person meetings and a poor understanding of accepted safety procedures during covid has made me avoid this place. There's technology to solve this, but they choose not to implement it. I plan to be open to returning in several months.

Santee Finch1Horrible record keeping regarding payment history, poor customer service(even from the branch manager), little to no technology upgrades regarding the use or transfer of money... only keeping my account until loan payment for vehicle is done then I’m immediately leaving this poor excuse of a reputable credit union!
