Snoopy Dog1I had someone write me a check from El Paso Teachers Federal Credit Union, and they charged me $3 to cash their own check. What a loser! Not only did they charge the $3, but they took five minutes to cash it, writing down everything from my driver's license, asking me personal information like home phone number, taking my thumbprint. I would NEVER bank somewhere that charged $3 to cash a check issued by themselves. Why anyone would bank with TFCU makes no sense to me. Needless to say, I will never again accept a check from TFCU.

Your input, and feedback from all our members & guests is very important to us and we always want our visitors expectations to be met when interacting with our staff & service. Per your comments, we definitely understand your frustration, we want to take the time to explain such issues to our consumers in order for all of us to understand any changes in our policies or procedures and in this case any fees assessed in this given transaction or any other for that matter. All credit unions are assessing more and more fees to different services in order to support our high costs for national data breaches coming from merchants. What this means to our membership is that any time a merchant like a department store for example is breached the consumers that use their credit cards and/or their bank or credit union debit cards might be compromised. We currently do not incur any of these charges to our members and/or at times the lost funds coming from these security breaches; therefore, the credit union pays such protection and the members and other consumers can keep their funds and be safe banking with us. Large banks have a lot more funding coming to them and in comparison you can sometimes see how they do not charge for such transactions like yours. Unfortunately, credit unions are smaller in numbers and local as well and we incur these losses no matter the issues coming from a compromised merchant. Therefore, we also advocate for consumers to support legislation that allows credit unions to maintain their tax exemptions in order to keep costs down for all our consumers. As far as collecting information from you such as your identification, phone number and thumbprint, it is our standard procedure in order for us to secure the safety of all parties involved in any given transaction. Our members do not go through that process considering they already have provided our institution with that info. We sincerely apologize if you did not know these small changes in advance. Marcus Graham1Horrible business practices. Bought two vehicles and got behind on payments on one and they held the title to vehicle we payed off so we can’t sell or anything. We are educators and they don’t care to assist. Find another lender.
