State Employees’ Credit Union Reviews

Peter Shire5The NC State Employees Credit Union is an excellent resource for employees of North Carolina's state organizations. Staffed by caring knowledgeable professionals this location is really going to help you out with your financial needs. Conveniently located just north of exit 25 off I-77. They also have three drive through lanes for quick convenient service.

Jana Johnson3I had a negative experience with Seth Galinski at the drive through window. As I asked him questions he proceeded to talk over me and then was reluctant to give his name, claiming his full name was Seth, until I specifically asked for his last name, in which he answered accordingly. Fortunately, Pamela Niven was able to ease this experience. When inside this location, Pamela explained the issue and displayed compassion toward my confusion. Afterward, she was to solve the problem momentarily. Thank you, Pamela. And Seth, please work on your customer service skills.

Kathy Auger5I have been a customer of SECU many years and have used this branch since it opened. The employees have been extremely courteous and knowledgeable. I noted the review below and wanted to share my experience. I observed all customers being asked the purpose of their visit (such as need teller services or need a loan officer), because I believe there may be maximums in the teller area and then perhaps in the different waiting area for a loan officer. This appeared to me to be related to current precautions. Thanks for the many years of service SECU!

Allison Bennett5I’ve been a member of SECU for 1 1/2 years now. Without any hesitation, we’ll always use them for car and any personal loans moving forward- particularly because of James Mauney. He’s been such a great help and advocate in helping us get the best rates and is always quick to respond and take care of his customers when needed. We look forward to working with James in the future and recommending him to our friends and family.

Fred Tulay1I have had two bad experiences at this location. The first one was with the Drive Thru. We deposited (ATM) a Money Order my wife has written to another agency, but we didn't send the money order and decided to deposit it in our joint account. The Branch and couldn't accept the deposit since it was written to another agency or organization. We asked for the Money Order to be returned to us so that we can cash it at the post office where we bought the money order. They branch or teller instead gave us a photocopy of the money order stating the original has been sent to the vault. However, we insisted the copy will not be accepted by the post office. We desired no trouble and since the post office was few blocks from the branch, we took the money order and the post office refused. We came back to the branch and told them the post office couldn't honor the photocopy of the money order, which was apparent. I had to insist that the branch request for the original money order or else, we will not leave the Drive through before the lady or teller leader was able to produced our money order she hasn't send out. She was insisting that we provide a receipt of the money order, which was also another story of prejudice. On Friday, July 31, 2020, I walked through the door of the branch again and I understand the social distancing rules. However, at the door, the lady who is there to help clients understand social distancing guidelines blocked me at the door asking what I came to do in the bank. Again, there were few clients in the tellers lines. Of course, no one comes to the branch to buy grocery and even after I told her I was here to transact business, she insisted I had to tell her what exactly I came to do at the branch. This was absurd and subtle discrimination and shouldn't be allowed at a small bank that I have several investments. I am an African American, but I'm not a criminal. I work and earn my living through honest labor. The Branch need to educate their employees about interaction with clients because I have never experienced such behavior at the Uptown, Airport and Brookshire locations of the Bank. This perhaps seems to be a pattern here.

Nicole Terry1This is the worst credit union I've have ever banked with. Each teller tells me something different. They make it extremely hard to pay your car payment, even if you are a member. I dont recommend this credit union. They are uneducated about how banking works and need their team to be all on 1 page to provide the correct information to their customers. Very disappointing.

Sony H2I have been in banking in the past for over 8 years and I find it really funny that I call to get an auto loan that I know would be approved on the spot and the customer service lady said that I could always apply online or call a 1-800 before even getting my name. Apparently, they don't need the loans or accounts at this branch. Why would I call a 1-800 number when I should be able to call my local branch to help me. Not good...

Sean Reece5I have banked with SECU for years and never any issues. I also just got my taxes done here for the first time. Other places were charging almost $200. SECU only charges $75 and they’re done in a few days. Not to mention the great customer service!

Mike Tilley5I've always had a good experience with the banking and staff here. Sometimes wish they were open more/longer hours, but have had great service and will be a customer for a long time.
