SOCU Pontiac Branch Reviews

Dave Scott5I would give them 10 stars, if possible! I had been banking with another local credit union for 32 years. Yesterday, I went to that credit union to get a motorcycle loan. After meeting with them, i decided to shop around, and I'm very glad I did. I met with Chris Cox at the Pontiac SOCU branch and not only did she beat my credit unions rate on the loan by a mile, she also signed me up for the SOCU Visa and did a very low interest balance transfer on two of my current cards, increased my credit limit and lowered my interest rate. Then, she showed me how they could lower my interest rate on my mortgage and save me thousands of dollars. She also told me they do not sell their mortgages to third party mortgage brokers so your money stays local. That was great to hear! She did all of this in about one hour. Everyone there was very friendly, smiling and laughing. The whole time I was there, it felt more like a family reunion then a bank appointment! My former credit union has felt very sterile and robotic. My time spent at SOCU was a great experience. They just won over a new customer! I would highly recommend you at least consider SOCU for any of your personal banking needs. Great Job Chris! Nice to meet you!

Justin Greenwell5This place is awesome if you ask me! I've never had a bad thing to say about them. I was in a bind a couple years ago and needed a car, but my credit was terrible. They took a gamble on me and gave me a loan with a 7.24% interest rate. Everyone else wanted 24.99%. (Or flat out denied me.) They worked with me and helped me manage my loan in a way that worked for me by allowing me to skip a monthly payment when times were tough. They also have a 10 day "grace period" on their loans that ensure you are never late on payment! And they reported my perfect payment history to the credit bureau, helping me build up my score. When I was ready to buy my truck, I simply made a call and was pre-approved for another loan on the spot because I had "Perfect credit with the them". They also approved me for a credit card when noone else would. The employees treat me great and are always able to answer any questions I have, even if that means contacting someone at the home office for help. I would say that SOCU has been a life changer for me and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs a little help getting their financial situation on track.

Stephanie Gonder4I like this credit union for the most part. I do have to say that the customer service isn't the most overly friendly. I worked for a bank for 13 years and we always greeted the customers with a warm smile and greeting in the lobby and the drive thru. This is not always the case here. Most times in the drive thru I get "Would you like a receipt?" as a greeting. The last time I went in was to do a cash advance and was told well if it requires a pin then we have to use the pin. I have done this advance weekly for a few months now and have never had any issues until this girl. She wasn't very friendly at all. Perhaps Gallup Surveys may help with the lack of friendly service. We had those at the bank I worked for. Edit: The service this past weekend was much friendlier. I was helped by the same girl as the last time and she was much friendlier this time.

Ghost Bunny3I’ve been with SOCU for so many years, I started having issues with them when I moved out of state, they started freezing my debit for no reason and now they are over drawing my account with fees! I have had enough money in checking to do what I need but they’ll take an unnecessary overdraft fee and overdraw my account! I’m looking for a new bank to do business with. I’m tired of dealing with this! Edit: So Things are getting better, I upped the 2 stars to 3 stars. They did manage to reverse a transfer I had mistakenly done and fix it for me. Maybe we are just communicating better now.
Response from the ownerHi Rachel, sorry about the issues you are having, we have forwarded this on to management who will be in contact with you. Thank you, SOCU.

Billie Johnson1My husband and I have been customers of the Pontiac branch for several years. We both only have 5 paymenta left on our loans. I went in today to see about refinancing mine to pay off some other bills. I was approved. BUT they want to make a check out to each place. Wasn't happy about that but I did it anyway. She put all the personal information about each bill into the computer then went to get the final approval from supervisor. THEN tell me they can't do it unless my husband is cosigner. Because his name is on a couple of the bills. The loan is for less than my car is worth. In 30 years I've never had to have a cosigner. You guys have never given me a loan that made me require a cosigner. It is my HUSBAND'S name on a couple of the bills not a strangers. I applied for a loan using my car as collateral, why do you need to know what I'm doing with the money? 1st I don't think you need to know that much of a persons private business. 2nd we both have good credit with the bank, loans are always paid on time. 3rd I felt like I was being treated like a criminal instead of a customer. When our current loans are done in January we will never do business with you again. They were told this before I left and didn't care. My sister and brother in law in Streator will be leaving as customers now too. They have been customers for A LOT of years. Thanks for wasting my time today.
Response from the ownerHi Billie, thank you for reaching out to us. I have forwarded your complaint to our management team. You should receive a response shortly.

Todd Henson2I deal with many credit unions on a daily basis and my experience with this CU was by far the worst. I have been waiting for a call back for 2.5 hours with no reply. called again and was transferred to a voicemail again. Extremely negative customer service and a poor presence of management. I've never written a review on google before but this was definitely a note worthy experience.
Response from the ownerHi Todd, sorry to hear about this issue. I have forwarded your complaint to our management. You will be getting a call shortly. If you want to talk to someone directly right now please call me at 815-510-3091. Thank you, Andrew

Shirley Leonard1Amanda at your Dwight branch should be fired. I wrote a check for $65.00 my niece deposited in her account. They refused it because I didn't have the date on it. Everything was there except 4/18/18. I am in my 70's and live in Pontiac. They would not work with me. I had to come in and write 4/18/18.I called my bank they said it's ok send it thru. But no deal. So I got ready and drove to Dwight to write 4/18/18 and show drivers license. This Mandy or what ever lied to me what she told my niece as they were going to hold check and Mark her overdrawn and charge her. And rude to me. And yes I told her what I thought of the whole thing.
