Alec Haslam2When I first signed up for a Patelco account they would reimburse ATM fees. Yesterday they charged me $3.50, on top of the $3.50 the atm charged. It cost me $7 just to take out $40.

Hugh Allyn5I joined PatelCo after the 2008 financial crisis. I saw that modern banking had created a crisis where millions lost their homes. I refuse to participate in that system. It hurt the most vulnerable citizens of our great country. Nobody was ever held accountable for a preventable crisis (See Glass-Steagall Act and look up "regulatory capture" if you want to see how public policy helped create the crisis). I have had nothing but great service from PatelCo. If I even need to visit a branch (rarely need to, they have a good mobile app), the staff are super friendly and go out of their way to assist me. PatelCo belongs to a network of no-fee atms. They're everywhere! I never pay fees to strange banks. For "paying" for their infrastructure. BS. It was a business decision to keep them profitable and in step with other banks. The fees are usury. If a problem arises, again, the PatelCo phone and mobile support is excellent. I'm a member of a Credit Union. That is the key difference between retail banks and credit unions. Members of credit unions make decisions on it's governance. If I used a bank, I would be a "customer", disposable, and have no say in how the institution is run, who the CEO is, whether they should step down after foreclosing on millions of family homes in a shady, probably illegal, manner. . Be smart. Join a credit union. After 12+ years, PatelCo has my unequivocal endorsement.

A B1No accessible ATM at this location from the outside. Security won't let you in to the building to use the ATM right by the door and they won't get up to explain why. They just shake their heads. I've had too many terrible experiences with patelco now. I will be switching credit unions.

James Roberts1Absolute Joke! I've spent a month trying to open an account at Patelco. No one answers the phone, and when they do (usually an hour on hold) no one knows anything or can do anything to help. I applied for an HSA account through my employer as part of their benefits. Well, Patelco denied my application because I don't live in san Francisco (I live in Denver, work for a company in San Fran). I called and waited on hold for an hour only to be told I had reached the wrong department. After another hour on hold, I told them who my employer was and they said they didn't know them. Then I told them all my Denver co-workers had accounts. Then they told me if I got one of my co workers to give me their account number then they would approve me, which I thought was wildly inappropriate. Anyway, I got a coworkers account number, then they called this coworker to harass them about who I am and who our employer is, which apparently was very confusing to them for some reason. After all that they told me they couldn't open an account because I had already been denied and they couldn't undo my denial. So they told me I had to fill out a paper application and mail it to them. But before I was able to mail it off they sent an email saying I was approved but I had to send them a copy of my drivers license and a piece of mail. Finally, I had gotten through to them. WRONG! I scanned and emailed a copy of a water bill and my drivers license, at 600dpi, medium quality, kinda fuzzy actually. Then they told me they had received the images, but that they were too large to open, even though they had been received...???? Anyway, I printed out the copies and faxed them. I dint hear from them for several days. Then they said the faxes came out too dark. I tried to fax them again, then didn't hear anything for several days, then I asked if they had received it, then they said it came out too dark again. So then I took photos on my phone and sent them in three different file sizes. Guess that wasn't good enough either, haven't heard back from them. I just sent some copies in 100dpi, so we'll see, but after a month of effort, nothing. During this whole ordeal, I have been receiving daily emails, sometimes five per day, saying my account was approved, but that it had not met criteria so had been denied......wait....What? In my multiple pleas for help or some information about what is happening and what to do to get this sorted out, I just get "sorry, fax came out too dark for some reason."Just the absolute worst of humanity right here. say what you will about big banks, they know how to deliver basic service, especially when someone is trying to OPEN an account, and put MONEY INTO it! For crying out loud! BOOOOO!
