Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union Reviews

TammeyB5If you are able to join this credit union then you should! I've had nothing but good experiences. I recently refinanced my car loan and the JHFCU saved me 5% on my rate! You can't beat that. Also, my loan associate was very nice, respectful, knowledgeable, and professional. Holly wrapped up my paperwork in less than a week. I am very happy with the credit union. I had my daughter join. She cannot appreciate the benefit being in college, but she will when it's time to buy a house, a car, or another major purchase.

Antoinette Grant1I’ve been with this credit union for over 10 years. Aside from having outdated systems and services for members, there is total lack of support from the loan department for members. Do not bank with them, especially for loans.
Response from the ownerI’m sorry you feel you were not supported. We cannot comment about personal account details on a public platform but will have a manager contact you.

Judi Purkey5My experience was very easy. I received a reply back within 2 days. I trust them entirely and would recommend anyone to them.

Maria M1Did not like the cold response from JHFCU loan department. They sent a rejection email because I was not worthy. At a time that I was down, not even a penny was offered to help. On top of that, they lowered your credit score. Talk about kicking some one to the curb. This is supposed to be member-owned. Would never approach them for loans ever again.

AwakenYourself1DO NOT BANK WITH THESE PEOPLE. I say this to say you WILL NOT be able to get to your money when you need it. Sometimes there servers shut down and NO ONE can get to their money. The credit union can't even access your money when the servers shut down. I so far had 3 different incidents. Couldn't collect cash from the ATM, couldn't call for rides or couldn't get food. Even my mom's card would not work. They need to get a better program or do something different. Please do not mess with people's money! I understand it's not the tellers fault but John's Hopkins need to do better! I will be banking with another credit union or bank asap. This sucks because in all my years of being with Hopkins Credit union I never had this issue until recently. 3 times is just too much.
Response from the ownerI’m sorry to hear that you had challenges accessing your account. There are occasional times that our system is offline for routine maintenance, which is typical for any financial institution. We typically do it overnight on a weekend to minimize inconvenience. ATM access typically is still available, and debit and credit card transactions are processed. If you call or email us we would be happy to have a manager research your situation. Please do not put your account number in the email.

Naser Nikandish1This place is simply disappointing. I have NEVER had a worse banking experience. When I opened an account, the guy bragged SO MUCH about this bank and services etc etc. I had three interactions with them; ALL three were miserable. 1- Opening an account SHOULD NOT take over an hour. You are not the only bank in the world; pull it together and offer a better/faster service. 2- The guy who took over an hour to open an account and at the end of the day entered my drivers license number wrong and caused a lot of trouble in online banking! 2- I deposited several checks and asked for all of them to be deposited in checking account; after waiting for probably 10 minutes, they returned me some cash and change; had to call and redo the whole thing again. 3- Today I deposited checks and asked $100 cash back and he forgot to give me the cash back; had to call and ask for it. AND BTW, they charge 25$ for a simple wire transfer! Yep, still charge for domestic wire transfer. I am not working with this bank anymore; no thank you!
Response from the ownerOur branch manager reached out to you after researching the incidents. We are sorry the experience had a few bumps, as we are committed to getting things right and providing great service.

John & Rachel Tester1Exceptionally disappointing service. I've been banking with JHFCU for over 10 years, this experience alone has forced me to switch to another bank entirely. Over the weekend, I experienced a compromise in my debit card, resulting in over 800$ worth of fraudulent charges. I went in immediately to the Bayview Branch to rectify these charges and start a dispute process. I find out at 3pm the NEXT DAY that my case was never submitted. The supervisor chalked this up to a "lack of training". Now I have to wait an additional 24+ hours on top of the 2-5 business days to receive the provisional credit of 800$ that was stolen out of my account. Clearly they have no regard for their members or their financial security by allowing incompetent employees to work the front desk and handle these serious matters. There was nothing the supervisor could offer me besides an apology. Unfortunately, an apology doesn't expedite a dispute process. Not to mention, they don't refund your overdraft fees until AFTER the dispute is settled, which could be up to 10+ business days. Never again. I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

Kimberly Unglesbee1UPDATE: NOTHING WAS RESOLVED AND WAS JUST TOLD SORRY. THIS BANK DOESNT FEEL BAD ABOUT STEALING YOUR MONEY. WILL DEFINITELY BE CLOSING MY ACCOUNT OUT. LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR YOUR BANKING NEEDS. If I could give zero I definitely would. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Looking forward to closing my account due to a recent fee that I was charged and it was actually the banks fault. Quick to assess fees but argue to remove them when it's the banks fault. Looking forward to the comment that is left on this review by them so I can post pictures and proof of how they did me wrong. Luckily they arent my primary bank.
Response from the ownerI am sorry to hear about your experience and can have a manager look into the account. I recommend you not post any pictures to protect your privacy. We truly do care about our members and listen. I don’t know what the entire situation was but I can have someone contact you off-line.
