Chantel Brandhagen1I have banked with them for maybe 20 years. A few years ago I bought a car. I could have paid cash. I got a loan to boost my credit. When it came time for the final payment, I had the money. But I couldn't pay because I was living in a camper and couldn't receive the title. They wouldn't mail me the title. They would only mail it to my old address they had in file (never updated because they refused any address I had for an update). If I paid the loan then the person who bought my house could sign the title and legally own my car. I contacted them and they were very aware of the issue but had no fix. So I didn't pay until I moved into a regular home. They reported two lates to my credit report and cost me 100 points for my score. I tried disputing and working with the credit bureau. The credit bureau gave me maybe 50 characters to explain all of this so the credit union won.
Response from the ownerThank you for your feedback.

Axel Seikola1I've been with IHMVCU for over 20 years. I moved out of the area 15 years ago and still used them as my bank from 4 hours away. I've paid off several auto loans, and recently a home mortgage. Recently I had a situation where I asked IH for some help on a mortgage payment, The house was going to be paid off on the 1st of October and I had inquired about waiting to pay Septembers mortgage because things were tight. The house would have been paid off but the loan officer said yeah, no problem BUT we will report you as a late payer. Seriously??!! I had my mortgage with them for over 12 years and never missed a payment. Even more recently I had a situation where I didn't get a notice of low funds and received 11 NSF fees. I had more than enough in savings to bring my account current which I did ASAP. I chatted with a client specialist and she said she could forgive 5, wow thank you. I asked her who do I talk to to get more forgiven, so she gave me member contact center number. That person forgave 4 more and stated that moving forward the only ones that would be forgiven are ones where the bank made a mistake. Once again, I don't have a history of overdrafts....I had money in savings, so now I have 2 NSF fees and the institution I'm with has removed me from overdraft protection. Before we ended the call she made sure to beat me up about their recent system change and that they sent out warnings that notifications would have to be set back up, There are several other credit unions and banks out there that are wonderful and actually care. My other credit union, the one I moved to when IH wouldn't help on my mortgage, will actually take money from savings to cover overdraft issues if it sees money is in there. Whoever responds to this, don't use your canned response....I've already called the number you are going to provide, they said they've done all they could. If you have done all you can then you should get out of the banking business because you are not doing a very good job.
Response from the ownerAxel, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. We're sorry to hear it was a negative one. We know you said that we replied that we've done all we can do, but we will be passing this note along just to be sure. Please feel free to private message us any further comments, concerns, or suggestions you wish to share. Thank you.

Response from the ownerHi Corbin, Because we don't store, take in, or disburse cash at HQ, we don't accept night deposits there. Hope that helps clarify!

Brian Stamper1Would give zero stars if I could. Had an auto loan as the dealership stated they had the best rate at the time. If we had known how difficult every step of the process would be we'd taken a higher rate. From getting automatic payments setup to paying off the loan was like banking in the dark ages.
Response from the ownerBrian, thank you for reaching out. I am so sorry to hear about the difficulties with the loan. While it's never fun to hear, we appreciate the feedback so that we can improve our process. I will make sure to get your review over to the right team. Thanks!

Austin1Held a hand delivered personal gift check from a family member because it was a large check and I don’t keep all my funds with you IH 😉, because my IH accounts didn’t match the check they decide to hold it for 7 full days. This was a gift destined to furnish my new apartment, and part of the connotation of the gift was that it be used for furniture. So I reached out, they say because I didn’t have matching funds (not the family member who’s account the money came from, BUT ME) for my safety the check would be held for 7 days. I ask that they call my family members credit union to quickly verify the funds and allow me access? Said it’s policy to not do that, so I ask her to verify that instead of helping a member and not WITHHOLDING MY MONEY (cause it is MINE) IH decided to just hold the check for a full 7 days? She says yes. I ask if any of the check can be accessible then if the full amount isn’t? They tell me that 200 dollars can be accessed, HOWEVER this 200 dollars wasn’t immediately made accessible when the check was delivered 3 days earlier... WHY??? Were talking over 10x $200 measly dollars on this check, but only 200 is available and IH did not immediately make it available, They held the full amount. So in conclusion IH is holding a graduation gift check from a direct family member, with a history of gifts in this manner, without taking 5 minutes to call and verify with this family members financial institution, even after 2 phone calls from a member asking that they do so, because the recipient of the gift doesn’t have enough money that IH controls to match the gift... You tell me if that’s an institution you want to give your business?

Katie Cloninger2Let me start by saying that I have literally been a lifelong member of IHMVCU. I had a savings account set up for me when I was a young toddler and have continued using them for my banking into adulthood. I've had just about every type of account that IH offers. I was and still am a fan of IHMVCU, however I feel it is necessary to bring light to an issue I had with them recently. In April, I applied for a mortgage refinance due to rates being so low. I locked in at a great rate and I was thrilled to be lowering my payments and mortgage term. The loan originator I was working with was Brian Griffith. Brian's communication was great for a week or so, but then things went downhill. When I committed to refinancing in April, I was told closing would be mid-June due to an influx in refinance applications. That was fine with me. He walked me through gathering all the necessary documents and signatures, which I promptly supplied. June rolls around so I send him an email asking for an update on the closing date. I hear nothing back. I decide to email an assistant named Krissi who helped gather some documents since I didn't hear from Brian. She gave me a 45 day estimate for closing. July rolls around and at this point I'm starting to get frustrated-- there had been no communication aside from me having to reach out to ask when closing is. I reach out again to ask for an update. I'm told everything is good to go, but it will be 90 days. August rolls around so I send yet another email asking for an update. At this point, it is past the original mid-June closing estimate, the 45 day estimate, AND the 90 day estimate. Upon going back and looking through my online refinance documents, the closing date was originally set for June 15, 2020. It is now August 5, and the only reason I heard from Brian yesterday is because I reached out to him. No one has called, emailed, or communicated with me in any way to give me a heads up as to what is going on with my refinance. Had I known this would be such a painful and drawn-out process, I would've gone with another lender. Luckily I was able to walk away from the refinance without penalty and get my appraisal fee refunded. Unfortunately IHMVCU really missed the mark on this one and upset a lifelong customer in the process.
Response from the ownerHi Katie – We really appreciate your feedback. We are seeing record number of refinances and purchases but that is no excuse for not staying in touch. We’ve passed this along to the appropriate people to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Thanks for your long-time membership! If you’d like to discuss further, please send give us a call at 309.793.6200 or send us a secure chat from IHMVCU.org.

Reverend Traman, Dustin ,Mark1Do not attempt to work with them on a auto loan, if you need help, they will not lower. They guaranteed my payment would be no higher than my last auto loan because I'm on low income. My last loan payment was $300 a month, this credit union raised in to $620 a month. They will not even discuss it, they asap take your car to an auction
