  There are lots of fine folks who work in the mortgage industry, and most everyone has a family member or friend they want to refer you to. Then there are those who are the best of the best, and who back up their reputation with excellent service and a deep knowledge of the industry and market in which they operate. Stuart Epstein and his team at George Mason Mortgage are simply the best of the best. Do shop around for a great rate, but then make your final stop Stuart Epstein. He's truly the best.

  Our experience with Tom McLister at GMM was phenomenal. As first time home buyers, we had so many questions and we weren't sure where to even begin. Tom took the time to explain every step of the process and its importance and also made sure we had a great understanding of every single piece of the mortgage puzzle! Getting our first mortgage felt daunting at first, but Tom always eased our worries and broke down the finances in ways that were clear, accurate, and easy for us to follow. He was incredibly responsive to our texts, emails, and phone calls and he always made us feel like he was on our side and had our best interest at heart. He was patient with us as we searched for our first home and was incredibly swift at helping us secure our first contract and close within 30 days (with an amazing rate)! Tom did an excellent job managing our mortgage and making sure everything ran smoothly. We knew we were in great hands with Tom and we are so grateful for his knowledge and expertise! We are so thankful for Tom and the George Mason Team!

  Recently used GMM for my new house. I worked with Jason, who I cannot say enough positive things about. Easy to reach, enough people on his team to keep things moving smoothly without getting so overwhelming I don't know how to reach out to with specific questions. Jason stayed up late one night as well to handle an issue that suddenly cropped up on my end, and I was blown away by his commitment. Also should mention, as with many mortgage lenders, GMM as a company sells your loan off to someone else within a month or so. I won't say who is servicing my loan now, but I was happy to find out they had a good reputation and modern web interface for online payments. In summary: I highly recommend George Mason Mortgage, and especially Jason's team.

Jason and his team were prompt with all communication regarding our loan which was great because we had a quick turnaround for a closing date.   GMM is the best lender on the market. This was not my first rodeo and I shopped around. Stuart Epstein Provided me the best rate right away, without haggling and with no hidden fees. He always provided quick responses to my emails and explained everything in detail. It was a pleasure working with such a great and professional company!

  I applied with George Mason after receiving an email from Stuart reaching out because I was apart of a Live Baltimore class. I was eager to apply as he mentioned in his email that he was familiar with all the first-time home buyers opportunities in Maryland. I submitted my application on 07/15/2020 and still haven't heard back from him. His "client care coordinator" Jen reached out to me to let me know that Stuart had my information and had many other pre-approvals to review but he didn't forget about me. It's been over a month and still nothing. Guess I didn't fit their type of client.

  Terrible. After taking approximately 6 months to close a refinance that was HARDLY borderline, they then sold the loan to NewRez LLC to manage it. After complaining privately to GM about the closing process, I was pretty impressed with the personal reply I received. After dealing with the misery of NewRez LLC I feel entirely appropriate about leaving this negative review because no mortgage company that cares about its clientele and wishes to have long-standing relationships should EVER transfer/sell the loan to NEW REZ LLC or any of its subsidiaries. I have no issue with the loan being sold. That was expected. I take issue with the loan being sold to a clearly incompetent company with horrid reviews and an inability to manage the loan. Exactly how difficult should it be for a company to verify hazard insurance? Exactly how difficult should it be for a client and the insurance provider to show proof of the hazard insurance. Exactly how easy should it be for a company that cares to make sure they transfer the information appropriately and not sell loans to companies that treat their clientele so poorly. This is perhaps more a rebuke of NewRez Finanical/LLC than it is against George Mason, but I consider George Mason to have made the referral. Since NewRez was good enough for them to make money on, it is good enough for them to take the hit from this negative review. Hopefully next time they'll consider this rrisk when they sell a client's mortgage.

  Working with Bob Ryan and Jolene Gonzalez was a true pleasure. I couldn't have asked for a better loan officer or loan processor. Bob was able to get me the best deal possible while staying on top of all parties. It was a long road to closing but it happened because of the hard work and dedication of the George Mason Mortgage team. If you're looking for a mortgage, I would highly recommend picking up the phone and giving them a call.

  Wonderful team worked on helping me become a first time home buyer. Very knowledge, professional, prompt and easy to communicate with. Worked on getting me a great rate and processing of all the paperwork as fast as they could. I am very pleased and will return when I decide on getting my next home.

  Richard and Jolene are like the All Star Team in the Mortgage world. I am a self-employed, first time home-buyer so I was not fully aware of the many requirements the underwriters like to see in your business portfolio. Needless to say Richard and Jolene got the job done and I am now a HAPPY homeowner! :-) They would definitely get my business again if I get a 2nd property. Thank you!
