First Security Bank Reviews

Allison Hallett1Worst bank I have ever done business with. All of their tech is old and outdated. Cannot contact anyone in emergency when they’re closed. Switch to Regions!

Micah Weeks1I'm baffled by my experience with this bank. My parents use the same and have for years without a problem. Yet, my wife and I have nothing but trouble and have to deal with issues that my parents have never experienced. I'm prompted to write this review based on a problem I'm having right now, one involving a hold on my account from Walmart that has been in place for five days now. We placed an online order with Walmart. A hold for the amount was placed on our account. No problem. That's pretty standard a lot of places. However, Walmart processed the transaction and got their money the next day. Well, here we are five days later and the hold is STILL on my account. Why? God only knows. The lady at the branch I called says it's because they have a mandatory four day hold on those transactions. So, let me get this straight. You place a four day hold for a transaction on my account, go ahead and pay the merchant out of my account, but then continue to hold the amount against my account for nearly a week? And then you tell me that in order to release it you have to receive an authorization to do so in writing on official letterhead from Walmart?! Well, guess what. That's news to Walmart!!! They have no clue what this bank is talking about and said the hold should have gone away the same day Walmart got paid. I certainly agree. The only people who seem to have a hang up about this concept is the bank, but they refuse to take responsibility for it and just blame Walmart for not sending them some absurd document. This isn't the first problem I've had with them over the past almost two years. They lock down my debit card frequently for using it to get gas. I went to get an MRI at a doctor's office in Memphis and stopped for gas on the way. Well, for getting gas, my card got disabled. So, imagine the hassle of getting to the doctor's office and being unable to process my copay! This has happened at more than one place, enough to the point that I only know three places that are "safe" to get gas in my county! Forget ordering things online directly with your card. It'll be locked down for days because this bank has NO WAY for you to handle it being flagged for fraud over a weekend. None. No emergency line. Get gas at night then break down on the side of the road? Hope you've got enough cash for the tow truck and whatever other costs you're going to incur, because I bet dimes against pesos your card is now disabled. And there isn't a soul in the world affiliated with this bank that will help you. This issue with Walmart is the last straw for us. Once our last pending transactions clear, we're closing our account. We thought the small town bank was going to be a better experience than using the bigger banks, but that simply can't be the case, at least not with this bank. In fairness to their frontline staff, the tellers have always been helpful and courteous to us. We know and like the ones at every branch near where we live. But, tellers don't cause the sorts of problems I've listed above, and fixing those problems is above their pay grade. These are problems of a much higher level, and complaints about them fall on deaf ears. If any regional manager sees this review, I pray they'll take it upon themselves to look into these policies and why they seem to affect some people and not others. Like I said, my parents are using the exact same branches we are and are not having these sorts of problems. So, it starts to feel like the bank is suspicious of me and my wife personally after a while when we have yet another major problem and my mother and father just look at us baffled that we're always getting screwed by this bank that treats them so well. My recommendation, stay away. Far away. Take your money and run, at least if you have any intention on using it to pay bills or buy gas or groceries. If you're just looking for somewhere to stash your cash and forget about it for a while, well, First Security can probably accommodate you. As for me and my house, we're exiting stage left.
