Citizens Savings Bank Reviews

Stephanie1My business partner and I came into this bank with intentions on opening up a business account. We later found out that we were looking for CITIZENS BANK not CITIZENS SAVINGS BANK (GPS error), however we were extremely appalled by how we were treated. When we walked in the 2nd door had a sign saying to buzz the door in order to be let in. When we did a rep/teller from the inside said (she spoke through the intercom) that she needed to see identification. Naturally we were shocked and confused but we complied. She came to the glass door and viewed our IDs. We assumed that maybe she would take down a name but no, she just looked through the glass and let us in hesitantly. Like I said in the beginning we figured out that we were in the wrong bank, however we had already decided while walking in that we were not doing business with this bank if this is how black people are treated. We were in the wrong bank but we could have easily been a customer had the experience been pleasant. Lost a potential customer. I hope upper mgmt talks to the tellers about how to deal with black/brown people.
Response from the ownerHello Stephanie. Thank you for taking the time to bring this incident to our attention. I want to assure you that we are reviewing your complaint with the staff at the office you visited yesterday. Your detailed review provides insight into our practices from a customer perspective, which is invaluable to us. We do not condone nor will we tolerate any form of racial discrimination in any of our offices. In regards to our policy requiring identification for entrance into a branch, this is a standard procedure to protect our staff and our customers. Our staff are instructed to ask for identification if they do not know the person. We understand this is a bit uncommon and slightly frustrating, but it is absolutely not intended to make anyone feel unwelcome or unwanted. Again, we sincerely apologize for the experience you had and we will make every effort necessary to identify and eliminate any practices that may be inappropriate. If you should want to discuss this further, you may call me at 570-587-0639. Thank you. Best Regards, Lisa Akulonis, Vice President/Branch Administration
