Citizens Bank Reviews

Isaac Boateng1Had an emergency and needed to wire-transfer money home immediately. We got to the bank 5 min before closing on a Satuday. VP, Sue Pilossoph appeared frustrated since wire transfer takes time to complete. We provided her with all of the account information; SSN, Debit Card, CC; she made it seem like our account wasn't active and that she could not pull the account information. She asked us to leave and call the number on the card. We did just that. The customer care rep was so shocked at what happened and did not believe we were advised the account wasn't active since she pulled it on a first try. This is highly unprofessional especially coming from a VP. I am sure she does not care since HSBC is selling some of their branches to another bank. I will be sure to repeat this review under the new bank.

b S1Today I had a very frustrating and humiliating experience this branch - with Rita Sing. I am a long time HSBC customer and have had an account for the last 20 years and have never been this disrespected in any banking environment. On today's visit I requested a large bank check in order to move money into another account for business purposes. I made the bank associate aware of this along with providing him with my NYS drivers license, bank deposit slip and last 4 digits of my social security number. The bank associate did a great job in assisting me and let me know he'd need management approval to process my check request. After he approached Rita for approval I was asked to go into her office. At this time, Rita Sing overstepped her professional duties and entered a space of bias and discrimination. Instead of getting any further approval needed to complete my transaction she hindered the process, attempted to deter me from proceeding and even made recommendations to either use a personal check to move my money or go to another HSBC bank. Her words were "you should go to your normal branch because they know you there". It didn't stop there. After I made it abundantly clear that I would not travel to a different branch she told me "she would try to get approval for my check and she didn't know how long it would take". I'm certain this was a tactic she used to deter me from proceeding with my transaction as I have requested large checks at other branches before. The approval process normally takes no more than 15 minutes during my experiences at the now defunct Bronx coop city, Bronx Boston road and New Rochelle main Street branches. After exiting her office to allow her time to reach out to another branch for approval she came back into the waiting area and asked if I knew anyone at another branch. She asked me this in front of the 2 bank associates and 2 customers that were waiting to be served. This is incredibly unprofessional, inconsiderate and possibly an attempt to further humiliate me. Her tone and line of questioning in a public space was inappropriate and should have taken place inside her office. At this point, I'm confident the customers in the waiting area assumed I was attempting some sort of fraud on the bank. Nonetheless, I provided her with the only HSBC employee name I knew off the top of my head - an associate from the Bronx Boston road branch. He confirmed my identity and let Rita know it was ok to complete the transaction. However if I wasn't able to recall a name I'm not sure if I would have received my check at this branch today. This has never happened to me at HSBC or any other financial institution in my life and it angers me to my core. Today Rita Sing used discriminatory practices, deterred my transaction completion and made every attempt to refuse service to a minority after providing all my necessary identification. Suppose another minority customer from another state or country visits this branch in desperate need of a large check due to a family emergency or business transaction? Will Rita Sing hinder or refuse service based on her personal beliefs and unfounded suspicions again? Or will Rita Sing recommend they return to their local branch hundred or thousands of miles away due to unfounded suspicions? Unacceptable. I feel so strongly about this that I'm seriously considering closing my accounts with HSBC and urging my family members to do the same.
